Senior's Travel Insurance Quotes

Just because you’re a little older doesn’t mean you need to stay home. More retirees are packing their bags and heading off on exciting adventures than ever before. In response, there is an increasing trend for insurers to create special policies for older people who like a bit of adventure in their diet.

Cap that

Some travel insurance policies will only cover people up to 49, others to 69. Some will allow you to pay extra premiums if you’re over the age bracket specified, while others have you in mind from the beginning.

1Cover’s policies will cover anyone up to 71 years of age for the same price, just $89 for 13-16 days worldwide. That policy will go up slightly the older you get. The same policy for someone aged between 71-75 years will be $173.50, between 76-80 it will be $226.50, and over 81, $326.50. It has unlimited medical cover and overseas emergency medical assistance, over $10,000 for loss of income and $5 million for personal liability. It also has a generous allowance for permanent disability or accidental death, at $25,000 for either.

AIG, which offers discounts to people who hold a Seniors’ Card, offers standard travel insurance for anyone up to the age of 70, and a special package for any age above that. Their policies are split into regions: platinum (worldwide), Gold (Europe, UK, Middle East, Africa, Russia), Silver (UK, Asia, Indonesia, China), Bronze (Pacific region, News Zealand) and Domestic. A two-week Gold policy will cost around $350 before any discounts.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

AIG has an extensive list of existing medical conditions that are automatically covered and include such things as epilepsy and diabetes. However, if you have a pre-existing medical condition that is not on the list, you might still be able to get coverage by filling out a pre-existing medical condition form online. You will be notified as to whether or not you can be covered. AIG uses International SOS for medical care.

Travel Insurance Direct’s main policy is for people up to 49 years old, however, they will insure peopleup to 80 years of age.A two week worldwide policy for an 80-year old will cost around $386 and 79 and under will be $268. Again, some pre-existing medical conditions are automatically included in the policy, but if you are unsure, it is best to speak directly with one of their customer service representatives.

All of these insurers have very easy to follow websites, making it simple to get quotes, compare prices and read the fine print of each policy carefully. Every policy must come with a policy disclosure booklet - this provides all of the finer details on what will and won’t be included in your policy. Being able to cover yourself should anything go wrong on your travels is just common sense and allows the young at heart to keep adventuring.
